Ike is a one year old Rottweiler, and he is also our class therapy dog. He has passed the Therapy Dog International dog training class as well as the Canine Good Citizen test.
First off, you need to know the basics. Ike is a wonderful pet and loves to be around kids. He looks forward to coming to school each day. He stays all day on Tues. and Thurs. On the other days, Grandma and Grandpa Truby pick him up. On the days he stays all day, you may need to take him out to go to the bathroom. Make sure to keep him on his leash. On the days he stays all day someone normally plays with him at recess and tires him out. After recess, he likes to come inside and sleep. You can sit next to him and pet him because he really likes that. He even likes it when kids lay their head on him while they read.
Now for his talents… He knows lots of tricks such as: army crawl, leave it, and shake. Another thing is that he is very easy to teach tricks to. You could look up tricks and try to teach them to him.
He also loves treats and toys, but what dog doesn’t. Give him a treat when he drops it when you tell him to or if he comes into the room when you tell him. Another thing, play with him a lot in the morning so he will be tired in the afternoon on full days. Overall, just love him and enjoy the special treat of having a dog in your class.
